Arbroath Lawn Tennis Club
Arbroath Lawn Tennis Club has existed in its current location in Arbirlot Road for over 100 years now…and is steeped in history. Until very recently, however, the courts have been blaes (shale) and only playable for around 6 months of the year. As a result , though, of several years of fundraising the courts were recently upgraded to all weather artificial grass – with floodlights…at a cost of approx £200,000. This of course, means that the courts are now playable for 12 months of the year. The courts were completed in November 2015 and were formally opened by Judy Murray on 7th March 2016. In conjunction with all of this the Club managed to secure the services of top Scottish coach, Mark Walker and his assistant Ruaridh MacLeod. Together they put together a year round coaching programme that regularly sees over 100 kids and adults take to the courts on a weekly basis. The Club is now completely buzzing with both Mark and Ruaridh’s coaching classes pretty much fully subscribed. This feelgood factor , of course, is also reflected in membership numbers which have increased by approximately 25% as a result of the new courts and comprehensive coaching programme. Judging by the quality of the juniors coming through the coaching programme at the moment the future is certainly bright for the Club!
